YMMV / Genpei Tōma Den

Go To

  • Awesome Art: The animated segments of the Genpei Toumaden promo videos are very artistic and well animated for its time, also being reminiscent of traditional Japanese art paintings.
  • Awesome Music: The soundtrack is often cited as the strongest aspects of the game. Particularly the boss theme against Minamoto no Yoshitsune, which got a remix in Namco × Capcom.
  • Funny Moments: There are some moments that can give players a good chuckle:
    • In the first game, the bonus stages are Developer Rooms where pixelated portraits of the developers appear in the background.
    • In the third game Kan no Ni, the Buddha himself is Flying on a Cloud and dropping items like a Lakitu.
    • Kagekiyo's Weapon Twirling Special Attack can be a little Narmy since it looks like he's just rotating his single arm in a very fast circular motion.
    • One of the enemies in the game are dancing cats. They are most likely based on the yokai Bakeneko (Changed Cat), but their sudden appearance in levels along with their pixelated dancing animation can be pretty amusing.
  • Nightmare Fuel: This is to be expected in a historic fantasy game that deals with supernatural and demonic imagery. This is especially prevalent in the promo videos:
    • From the live action segments:
      • The puppet of the Dragon God causing havoc on a village set can be pretty scary.
      • Minamoto No Yorimoto boasting about his demonic powers while the camera focuses on his ghastly face.
    • From the animated segments:
    • Taira no Kagekiyo himself can be scary to look at, being a zombie with a ghostly white face with black makeup that gives him a permanent smile.
