YMMV / Gelsomino in the Land of Liars

• Tear Jerker: Benvenuto's death. He sacrifices himself by helping Bananito hide in the rags he sells. After the danger passes, he is so weak that he can't stand up again, and we are treated to a couple of paragraphs from his point of view as he feels himself getting weaker and his thoughts blurring, but he still is happy he could help someone. And then he doesn't respond to Please Wake Up from Bananito. The impact is especially strong since otherwise the novel is pretty lighthearted and funny.
