YMMV / Game Of Thrones S 5 E 3 High Sparrow

Go To

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Given the grief the High Sparrow ended up causing her, Meryn Trant telling Cersei "I don't think this is a good idea, Your Grace" somewhat comes across as this.
  • Squick: Margaery and Tommen have sex. How much older is she? His giddiness afterwards, in contrast to her obvious experience, only makes it squickier.
  • Values Dissonance: The presumed squickiness of Margaery and Tommen's wedding night isn't such a big deal for viewers from countries where the age of consent is lower. The age of consent is 16 in most of the U.S., and some states have close-in-age exemptions that allow legal sex at even younger ages, but thanks to Hollywood Provincialism a lot of Americans are not actually aware of this. A lot of the squick is because the character of Tommen is presumably younger than the 17-year-old actor, Margaery's character is definitely older than Tommen, and Natalie Dormer is almost twice Chapman's age.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Some viewers have commented Cersei comes across as more sympathetic, considering her actions can come across as a woman trying to protect her son from being sexually manipulated.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: A lot of viewers have found Margaery's relationship with Tommen unsettling, considering she's much older then him and it's unclear how old Tommen is meant to be (only three seasons ago he is clearly shown as still a child). The writers have claimed Tommen is 17, however he continues to act like a child. This means Margaery can easily come across as a grown woman sexually manipulating an underage boy.
