YMMV / Gaither's Pond

Go To

  • Accidental Aesop: Bullfrog tells Guppy that God wants to protect him from the fishing lure. While it's a metaphor for temptation, a child watching may get the idea that God doesn't want them to fish.
  • Awesome Music: The soundtrack and various musical numbers are definitely the most universally well-regarded quality of the show, and for good reason; the Gaither Vocal Band is very highly acclaimed within the southern gospel genre and they have even been inducted into the Gospel Hall of Fame.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Guppie running into Big Bass Bill when he's supposedly lost and far away from anyone who can help him; and Bill going on a rant about little guppies disobeying.
  • Karmic Overkill: In "The Lure Depths", Guppie goes through a traumatic, life-threatening, and probably painful event. Bullfrog's response is to say he needs to ask forgiveness for disobeying.
  • Narm Charm: The animation and poor segues from story to song keep it from being considered as good as, say, VeggieTales; but the Gaithers are clearly having a great time voicing goofy animal versions of themselves and taking friendly potshots at each other. The fact Bill Gaither's son made it is also pretty sweet, and there's the music, which is considered genuinely awesome.
  • Special Effect Failure: Many effects such as the borderline nonsensical visual effects during the musical sequences and the unintended Body Horror of the characters' extreme squashing and stretching makes the whole thing feel like a fever-dream.
  • Unintentional Uncanny Valley: Most of the character designs feature detailed humanoid faces made to resemble their respective voice actor, which, combined with their animal/plant bodies and the generally primitive quality of the CGI models, becomes pretty disturbing. One may be reminded of Jinmengyo.
