• Ascended Meme: The description for the Marauder mentions the Butt-Monkey status that the ship has accquired, stating "Over the years, the ships had become outdated and rarely used for real battle. Most are sold off to be used as testing targets for various captains. Some captains rate their own ships by how fast they can sink a Marauder."
• Difficulty Spike:
  • Once SI took over, and all of the brilliant players that would go to Conference clubs were systematically axed, the game obviously got much harder. It still doesn't stop people from taking clubs from said Conference to the Champions League, though...
  • This can naturally happen over the course of a save. In nations such as Spain, the first promotion to top-flight as a minnow can be an unpleasant experience as you have to face extremely powerful opponents with hardly any TV revenues to bolster your team.
  • White Flayers are the polar opposite of the Onyx Watch, they can easily outrun your ships and tear them to flotsam if you can't keep them at bay.
• Funny Moments: The 2020 April Fools' Day "update" changed the Deepwater Guard into the Deepwater Marauders, replacing all their craft with increasingly ludicrous variants of their iconic Marauder ship. Examples include the "Smallrauder" (a Marauder the size of a toy boat), the "Mouth Marauder" (the bow is a set of fully-functional jaws with More Teeth than the Osmond Family and a drill mounted on a mechanical Overly-Long Tongue), the "Hotrauder" (stylized after a Cool Car, complete with an Enormous Engine and enormous flame-spewing exhaust pipes on the sides), and the "Mecharauder" (a Transforming Mecha). Even the normal model was modified with a spinal Wave-Motion Gun and broadside laser cannons.
• Misaimed "Realism": The game has a simple but otherwise fairly realistic method of applying air and water resistance to craft. However, the actual resistance is absurdly powerful, leading some to say the oceans are made of jello and the air out of water. Cutting the throttle on a jet fighter causes it to almost instantly stop, and boat that would take miles to stop in real life takes only a few seconds in the game.
