YMMV / Frogun

Go To

  • Scrappy Mechanic: Despite the game's positive reviews, it came out with a lot of annoying problems that raised a lot of eyebrows, though all were addressed in later patches:
    • Touching Jake causes damage to Renata, as he was programmed to act as an enemy, causing the races to be more an annoyance instead of a fair challenge, especially if the player was close to him in narrow passages. This was fixed in the 1.8 patch.
    • You can't skip dialogues at all during a stage. It's fine for the first time, but it becomes a chore trying to skip every dialogue box when you revisit a stage. Oh, and if you're doing a time trial, the game doesn't pause the clock during dialogue, forcing the player to mash buttons to end the dialogue as fast as possible. This was fixed in the 1.92 patch.
    • Chain grappling became a major point of criticism, as the player needs to traverse Bottomless Pits by using the Frogun to grapple from one point to another in mid-air. The problem is that the Frogun's aim is unreliable the majority of the time in these sections, and the player has very little time to grapple another target before falling thanks to Renata's delay after using the Frogun, causing a lot of unfair deaths. Did you grapple something that you didn't want to after the first target? Back to a checkpoint with you! This was partially addressed in the 1.92 patch, adding the ability to snap to 45 degrees, sensitivity options, and reducing Frogun delay to the point where it can be fired twice in midair before Renata falls.
