YMMV / Freedom's Limits

Go To

  • Continuity Lock-Out: Although reading Splint first helps establish the story and characters better (and Zoop recommends it anyway because it's just a good story), it's not strictly necessary to have to read Splint before reading Freedom's Limits. However, later chapters of Splint do contain one or two Late Arrival Spoilers for the latter story, while if one hasn't read Freedom's Limits, they might not understand the significance of these characters or occurrences.
  • Squick: The fact that some of the soldiers working under Sauron are willing to have sex with very young slave girls; Madavi mentions she's only around thirteen when she is "chosen" for the first time.
  • The Woobie: Madavi. She's an orphan who was Born into Slavery in Mordor and never even saw things like flowers until she was in her teens. She is an extremely kindhearted and gentle person, who always does her best to help others and not hurt or inconvenience anyone. She rarely express hatred or resentment towards anyone, no matter what they've done, and treats Orcs and humans much the same. She goes out of her way to help Smador even though it makes her own life more difficult and never seeks anything in return but his company. She ends up being publically stripped, humiliated and hanged by orc hunters, who also murder Smador and her baby son right in front of her, purely for falling in love with an Orc. In her final moments, she's not just frightened but also confused, desperately trying to figure out what she did that was so awful that she and her family should die like this. And even while she's praying to whatever deities there are to let her be reunited with Smador and Rauni in death, she's too nice and polite to demand anything, just asking if it would be possible for them to consider it. Just about anything good and happy in Madavi's life gets taken away from her and she deserves absolutely none of it.
