• Alternative Character Interpretation: Did Layer really want to kill Iris? Or was she trying to goad the Maverick Hunters into killing her, since she didn't want to have to see Zero in the hands of another woman? Word of God implies the latter.
• Die for Our Ship: Zero/Layer shippers are rather hateful towards The Merger Magikoopa for killing off Layer, despite him outright stating his view onto Zero's love life. The Merger Magikoopa himself calls them hypocrites for that exact reason.
• Magnificent Bastard: Two among The Highest Resistance.
  • Exeller is a Zero-class Highest, the only one able to defeat archdemons and first-class Highests. He is literally the "Chaos Factor" that allows Sonic to defeat Robotnik over, and over, and over again, as he has Sonic as a protege. Taking power from the suffering of his victims, Exeller enjoys nothing more than constantly torturing anyone who openly declares himself to be Sonic's enemy, having them escape from death when Sonic beats them just so they'd be defeated again. Even when The Bad Guy Wins, Exeller, having the attribute of Time, resets the timeline right afterwards, ensuring Sonic will win next time. He is pretty much why Sonic the Hedgehog is a Video Game Long Runner.
  • Lixnac, the Author Avatar. He used The Magic of Forbidden Light to save the closet persons to Exeller and Alice, in order to gain their trust. After gaining their trust, he manipulate them into forming a rebellion against Alice's father, so they could entertain themselves as they wish, with no reppercussions. After this rebellion was formed, he made sure they were doing their job of protecting Mobius right, and that they also have entertainment while doing so, by often making someone say a meme. His main goal with the Highest Resistance is to create a perfect, peaceful world. Cunning and powerful to the bone, it's no surprise Lixnac is part Xehanort.
• Moral Event Horizon: Since Word of God being that Robotnik toyed with Layer's affections, he crossed it by doing that to those who show more sympathy to Layer.
