YMMV / Freaky Stories

  • Americans Hate Tingle: Although the show was a success in Canada, the same cannot be said in the United States where the series aired on Fox Family. The series was dropped after Season 2 and its failure in America led to production company Decode pulling the plug on funding, ultimately killing the show.
  • Awesome Music: "The Hook" is one of the most widely remembered stories due to being a catchy (and creepy) doo-wop murder ballad adaptation of the eponymous Urban Legend.
  • Cult Classic: Despite being relatively obscure, the show has maintained a strong cult following over the years, even receiving a documentary film about its production in 2019.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: One story involves the pilots getting locked out of the cockpit while the airplane is heading towards a mountain range. It's very similar to how Germanwings 9525 crashed.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: One story involves a couple who encounter a kangaroo while travelling Australia. The kangaroo passes out, and when deciding to pose with the animal's body while dressing it up in human clothes, the kangaroo comes to and springs away with their things. Sounds familiar?
  • Nausea Fuel: A lot of the stories revolved around the characters unknowingly consuming disgusting things like medical waste, the contents of an RV's septic tank, mealworm-infested rat heads, dissected frogs, a live turtle, garbage recycled into sausages, food chewed up by old people, chocolate-covered cockroaches, the cremated remains of a dead relative, soup made from garbage with a loogie spat into it, human brains, cleaning supplies, mixed nuts that an old woman had sucked the chocolate off of, etc. with the occasional Vomit Indiscretion Shot once they realized exactly what it was that they just ate.
  • Values Dissonance / Values Resonance: Could be either, depending on your perspective. One segment is about a girl who grew up competing in beauty pageants, just like her mother and sisters, who resorts to starving herself and taking diet pills. It's clear that the extreme to which she went was seen as toxic, but it's not clear if the segment was intended to be critical of child beauty pageants and stage parents as a whole, since the girl is depicted as acting under her own agency.
