• Angst? What Angst?: While most of us are caught up with the swamp monsters killing the characters one after another, if one looks back at the story as a whole, one might realize that among all the surviving characters (Actually just two), Eliza had the most mind-numbing trauma. Her father was killed a few days ago, followed by her nearly being killed in an explosion, she witnessed her own mother being bitten in half by the swamp monsters and all her neighbours she presumably knew for years are killed off in a single day. And what was the final scene? Sharing a Smooch of Victory with Sam and laughing as they went back to look for any survivors.
• Funny Moments:
  • Be it intentional or not, Dan's annoying whine at times had their chuckle-worthy moments.
    • Dan's reaction when Mary ignores his request for a beer.
    • Sam and Eliza repeatedly telling him to shut up at various points in the movie.
  • As Mary and Sam navigates the swamp early in the movie, the next shot inexplicably showed Mary in a bikini as she goes about her job. No explanation as to why she's suddenly in a bikini, and no one, not even Sam comments on it, and she got dressed up soon after.
  • As far as this troper can tell, the deaths in the movie are played straight without comedy. Roland's death scene is unintentionally funny though, with its over-the-top execution: The monster is able to jump out of the water and with just one bite took off his head, and later on the same creature happily slithered around the house and pushed the rest of the body into the water for its own consumption.
• Les Yay: Mary and Eliza have quite an interesting conversation after the latter gets fed up with her Jerkass boyfriend. May or may not be intended to be a subplot for Mary's character. Either way, the final cut of the movie made their dialogue completely irrelevant to the main plot of the movie, and Mary was killed off soon after.
• Special Effects Failure: The snakeheads are either cheap CGI or rubber puppets, and it shows.
