• Memetic Mutation: Using the video of the avalanche scene to describe situations where people ignore other red flags or obvious oncoming situations (such as procrastinating on work or being oblivious to climate change). Its being done in a single static shot also allowed it to be used in a hoax claiming to be a real video of a man abandoning his family.
• Nightmare Fuel: The controlled avalanche scene. Imagine being on a family vacation to a dangerous nature area, but rest assured, the authorities maintain the place in order to make sure it's safe for tourism (provided you follow the rules). But in spite of this, freak accidents do happen and they could happen when you come to visit. The folks on the balcony are on edge when they see a controlled avalanche for the first time and Tomas assures his family that it is what the hosts say it is... until the avalanche appears to be heading straight towards them. Cue Mass "Oh, Crap!" and everyone trying to run inside. Fortunately, it was just fog produced by the snow falling, but nonetheless, everyone thought they were going to die and all Ebba and her kids could do was embrace each other while the other guests including Tomas pushed past them.
• The Scrappy: Tomas is well disliked for doing almost nothing to assure his family that the controlled avalanche really is a controlled avalanche and trying to run away without them (except his wallet and his tail between his legs) when it seems that it's a real avalanche.
• Signature Scene: The avalanche scene.
