  • Angst? What Angst?: When Jimmy is killed, his girlfriend Tracy cries over a picture of the two of them together. Then the very next morning she's kissing another man while naked. To a lesser degree, Barbara and Mike hook up soon after Jimmy's death as though nothing has happened.
  • Awesome Music: Susan Justin's offbeat electronic score, featuring heavy use of the Blaster Beam, received mostly positive notice by critics who otherwise saw the film as a cheap, exploitive rip-off of Alien. For a sample, here's the main theme.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Tracy and Barbara's naked sauna conference to discuss communicating with Subject 20. The men, who favor a more aggressive approach, are less likely to intrude and figure out what they're doing. And after Dr. Houser literally melted onto her, Tracy needed to change her clothes and clean up anyway, giving Barbara the opportunity to pitch the plan the men had already rejected.
  • Les Yay: Tracy and Barbara discuss a plan to communicate with Subject 20 — while nude in the sauna, with Barbara cleaning melted human flesh out of Tracy's hair. It Makes Sense in Context.
  • Nausea Fuel:
    • The gruesome outcome of Subject 20's attacks.
    • Not to mention the scene where Mike and Tracy feed Cal's liver to the creature.
    • The scene in the lab with the dead animals. The filmmakers used actual, decomposing animal corpses.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
    • June Chadwick, who played Barb, would later become better known as Jeanine in This is Spın̈al Tap and Lydia in V.
    • Earl is an early role for Scott Paulin, who would rise to fame the following year for his portrayal of astronaut Deke Slayton in The Right Stuff.
    • Michael Bowen plays Jimmy in one of his first roles.
