- Aluminum Christmas Trees: With all the other liberties the movie takes with history, you would be forgiven for thinking Whiskey the lion was made up for the story. Turns out, Whiskey was real, and there was another lion, named Soda, who served as a mascot with him.
- Ensemble Dark Horse:
- Holy Hitman Porter and Cynical Mentor Cassidy are both well-remembered secondary characters who are remembered by many fans years after finishing the movie.
- German Token Good Teammate Franz Wolfert is only in three scenes, but his sense of honor and the insignia painted on his plane make him pretty popular.
- Romantic Plot Tumor: Some of the most narmy dialogue came from the unnecessary romance between Blaine and Lucienne.
- So Okay, It's Average: General crowd reaction to the movie.
- Spiritual Adaptation: A 2009 comic book, War Is Hell: The First Flight of the Phantom Eagle, has clearly taken inspiration from Flyboys, but is a total Subversion of it, creating a viciously darker and nastier story. If one watches the film and then looks at the graphic novel, it clearly shows that the comic's creators viewed the film and then are parodying and twisting most everything in the film.
