YMMV / Flood (They Might Be Giants)

The album:

  • Covered Up: Most fans thought "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" was a TMBG original at the time, and the 1953 hit by The Four Lads is usually only mentioned in connection with the cover these days.
  • Hype Backlash: It holds a strange place in the TMBG catalog, since it's almost everyone's introduction to the band, and their most famous album. As a result, the people who tend to be the most enthusiastic about Flood are new fans or casual fans. More devout TMBG fans often have a lukewarm attitude about it, particularly feeling that its strong first half, loaded with fan-favorite songs, is offset by a less-impressive second half.
  • Sequel Displacement: It is by far the most well-known TMBG album to this day to the extent that some don't even realize that it's the band's third album. Part of this is due to the fact that their previous two albums (plus a b-side compilation) were for an independent label, whereas Flood was their major label debut.
