YMMV / First Comes Love

Go To

  • Designated Hero:
    • Jodie, who is upset to find the love of her life is in a relationship with another woman. Unfortunately, Jodie quickly shows herself to be shallow and manipulative, plotting to break the relationship apart, even going so far as to use the woman's fears and allergies against her just to make her look bad. All over somebody she made a drunken Fallback Marriage Pact with ten years ago.
    • Jodie's best friend Lino is even worse, as he's the one who persistently encourages Jodie to sabotage Blake and Rebecca's relationship, even at times when Jodie would rather not.
  • Designated Villain: Rebecca is this by virtue of simply being Blake's girlfriend, and therefore the main obstacle standing in the way of Jodie getting her man (or woman), despite her being nothing but sweet and friendly to everyone (Jodie included). At worst, she's a self-absorbed bore. She does accuse Jodie of getting between her and Blake at the end of Chapter 5, but this is only after Jodie has spent most of the book up to this point pining after Blake, dismissing Rebecca's feelings and plotting (and, unless you have been going out of your way to avoid it, repeatedly attempting) Relationship Sabotage.
  • Strawman Has a Point: In Chapter 18, Rebecca rightfully calls Jodie out for trying to sabotage her relationship with Blake and for being either fake nice or just plain mean throughout the entire trip. Despite Jodie being the main character and Rebecca being made out as an antagonist just for daring to ever be in a relationship with Blake, she's completely right, especially when she points out that Jodie's reasons for hating her are subpar at best. Even Rebecca's assessment that everything that has gone wrong on the trip can be traced back to Jodie is hardly unfounded.
Rebecca: Wait. You're mad at me for being a nice person?
