YMMV / Fire Warrior

Go To

  • Fridge Brilliance: The Greater Good is described as an unattainable ideal, but making the ol' Schola Progenum try is good enough. Just like how the Emperor is an unattainable paragon of humanity and Imperial citizens are expected to at least make an honest effort to measure up to Him, even though it's ultimately impossible.
  • Fridge Horror: Retroactively, Kais's Emergency Weapon sword becomes quite the tragic memento. At the time, it was probably just there to look Japanese. In modern lore, however, such an ornamental blade is almost certainly his squad's Bonding Knife, the edge that they used to forge their bond as Sworn Brothers. Whether Kais looted it off his dead sergeant or was the blade's designated carrier, it's about all he has left of his squad after the crash of his Orca and subsequent trench warfare scenario. Kais fights for more than the Greater Good alone, he fights for the memory and sacrifice of his fallen friends.
  • Good Bad Bugs: For reasons unknown, there is a bug during the battle against the Imperial airship that can cause it to somehow blow itself up. Considering how buggy and difficult the game is, this cheeses the fight.
  • Ham and Cheese: BRIAN BLESSED!!!!! plays a suitably pompous - though rather slight - Imperial Admiral.
  • More Popular Spin-Off: The Novel, which is considered much better than the game itself.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Everything after the level "No Rest For The Wicked" when everything starts going Chaosy, particularly during the levels inside the Convergence pit.
  • Obvious Beta: The PC version has some downgraded effects/menus from the PS2 version and more general bugs; such as enemy dialogue repeating more, the sword not actually being in Kais' hand properly among other issues.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The general consensus is that Fire Warrior is a bog standard Playstation 2 era FPS game, with very average graphics and gameplay fairly typical of the console and time it was made. At best it manages to capture the feeling of the setting great, but beyond that is either just okay, or incredibly poor depending on the version.
