- Fridge Brilliance: During the final scene of the movie, the three housemates take sips of their eggnog and notice that the flavor seems off, which is because Finley tampered with it. If Finley had used rat poison like he tried to do earlier, the housemates wouldn't have tasted it since it's flavorless; however, Chris notes that the eggnog tastes heavily of nutmeg, which is highly toxic in large quantities.
- Jerkass Woobie: Even if he is an aspiring serial killer, you can't help but feel at least a little bad for Finley when all of his murder attempts end up backfiring on him and the housemates make him their resident Butt-Monkey, especially when he waves goodbye to the cat before returning to the attic in tears when they banish him there.
- Special Effect Failure: The scene where Finley attacks Jennifer with the knife very clearly has a human actor playing the former in the shots where he steps into the hallway and when he charges at her, as the actor is obviously much taller than the two-foot-tall Finley puppet even when filmed from far away.
