YMMV / Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings

Go To

  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: A lot of players warmed up to Vaan and Penelo over the course of this game. Since the rest of the original cast spent most of the story occupied with other matters, Vaan and Penelo had a chance to shine as more than just Tagalong Kids, and things that were previously All There in the Manual became important character moments.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Revenant Wings is radically different from XII; it's a Real-Time Strategy game, the storyline is classic RPG fare that focuses upon Vaan and not the adults, few locations return from the original, and most of the plot and events have nothing at all to do with what happened before. Ironically, it's a sequel to a game that got this exact same response.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: The Wolfpack Boss fight against Ba'Gamnan and his goons at the end of Chapter 1 - they outpower and outnumber your characters, and you have only just obtained the ability to summon Yarhi. The problem is that the Yarhi you have are little more than Cannon Fodder, you have no healers whatsoever, and if you rush in, you will get your ass kicked. Completing this mission requires either careful managing of the Yarhi (particularly to avoid them getting hit by Area of Effect attacks) or Level Grinding through repeated failures (as characters still get experience in the event of a mission failure).
