YMMV / Final Fantasy VII Abridged

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Aerith. Is she completely oblivious to Tifa's clear dislike of her? Or is she a troll who does what she does just to get a reaction knowing that Cloud won't let her get killed because she's the White Mage?
  • Characterisation Marches On: Aerith's tendency to swear a lot dies down after her introduction.
  • Character Rerailment: Aerith's disappearing potty mouth re-emerges in the Valentine special.
  • Crazy Is Cool: Hojo, so much so that nearly all of his dialogue is accompanied by The Laboratory of Dr. Weird.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Cloud, during Advent Children Abridged, cuts off contact with his friends after contracting Geostigma because he thinks no one will miss him because of how much of a dick he has been.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • This series beat Final Fantasy VII: Machinabridged to the punch with a quite few gags, including: Tifa being a bit on the crazy side, Don Corneo becoming more attracted to Cloud after finding out he's actually male, Cid and Shera having a loving relationship from the start, Cait Sith being The Eeyore, a major corporation being a Take That! towards an infamous game company (Shinra for Capcom here and the Golden Saucer for Electronic Arts in Machinabridged), Tifa immediately figuring out Cait Sith is The Mole, Cid often reminiscing about the lives of the other Cids in the franchise (here, Cid believes that he and the other Cids are all the same person, whereas in Machinabridged, he claims that the other Cids are his ancestors), and Heideggar and Scarlet's deaths being the result of Heideggar accidentally pressing the Proud Clod's self-destruct button.
    • All the jabs at Capcom was from their Audience-Alienating Era in the early-to-mid 2010s, but now they seem dated considering that Capcom Won Back the Crowd with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and the Resident Evil 2 (Remake), Mega Man 11, and Devil May Cry 5, and even games that had a shaky start like Street Fighter V got better with each update. Although Advent Children Abridged revealed that Rufus hated that new direction, causing him to leave Capcom.
    • The Valentine's Day Special has Barret dismiss the possibility of Cloud having to also go on a date with Red XIII since "gamers are havin' none of that inter-species shit after Sonic 06", and ends with Cloud going on a date with Cait Sith. Years later, both Red XIII and Cait Sith would end up getting their own versions of the Gold Saucer date in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, with Vincent and Cid tagging along on the latter's date.
