YMMV / Fate/Starry Night

  • Broken Base: The author's interpretation of Ritsuka Fujimaru has left readers divided. Some readers enjoy Ritsuka's energetic, Hot-Blooded, Kung-Fu Wizard spunkiness with a wealth of experience from his previous adventures. Others are more critical of Ritsuka, calling him too competent for someone who's supposed to be an ordinary human. His fight scenes where he faces others in hand-to-hand combat are either considered funny and action-packed or too silly to take seriously.
  • Funny Moments
    • Shinji gets the wrong idea when Jack calls Ritsuka "Mommy".
Jack: We came to help Mommy!
Shinji: [baffled] Mommy…? Fujimaru, are you an ugly woman?
Ritsuka: [flashbacks to Shinjuku] What?! No! I make a very nice looking woman, thank you very much!
    • Everything about the April Fools Day omake. Everything about it ridicules the Fate franchise as a whole, including the Beasts, Shirou's Chick Magnet status and Flanderization, and even the most common sources of bad Fanon. To cap it all off, Ritsuka eats Saint Quartz to summon Godzilla and King Kong as Grand Avenger and Grand Ruler, all while blatantly stating how stupid this all is.
    • Even after revising Ritsuka's fight scene with Caster's zombie crocodile, the author stubbornly refuses to remove the suplex regardless of how silly or impractical it sounds for Ritsuka to do so.
Saikazo: Suplex City Croc is forever now.
    • When Ritsuka is injured, Archer gives him a Bridal Carry while rushing him to safety. Jack takes offense to this, saying that she should be the one to help her mommy. So Ritsuka is dropped into Jack's arms as they sprint down Mt. Enzou. Ritsuka is glad that no one else is around to see him get cradled like a princess by a little girl.
  • Unexpected Character: No one expected Tachie, the original version of the character who would later be retooled into Mash, to appear in the story.
