- Memetic Mutation: One that's part of another meme: Oppenheimer fans have made memes and jokes about Newman's Leslie Groves eating Newman's Own-brand salsa and chips as part of the "I just know [General Groves] was demolishing chips and salsa at Los Alamos" meme.
- One-Scene Wonder: Much like Florence Pugh would go on to do about forty years later, Natasha Richardson makes the most out of her three brief scenes as Jean Tatlock and portrays her as the tragic figure that she was, showing why Jean was such an important person in Oppenheimer's life despite having less than five minutes of screentime.
- Questionable Casting:
- While Paul Newman played Leslie Groves well (if perhaps more harsh than in real life), he looked very little like the man. Ironically, Fred Thompson bore a striking resemblance to Groves, but he was instead cast in the much smaller role of General Barry.
- At the time of its release, the casting of Dwight Schultz as Robert Oppenheimer was criticized as well.
- Retroactive Recognition: Clark Gregg has a small part as an aide who briefs Groves on surrender overtures by the Japanese.
