YMMV / Family Guy S8 E1: "Road to the Multiverse"

Go To

  • Angst? What Angst?:
    • Brian and Stewie, with Human Brian's help, escape the parallel universe and return home. Human Brian bids them farewell and heads off into the world to live out his dreams as they see him off and Stewie wonders what he'll do with his newfound freedom...only for Human Brian to be hit by a car and presumably killed. While Brian and Stewie look shocked (and Stewie exclaims "Oh my God, he got hit by a car!"), it's more to do with the suddenness of the situation, and the fact that the one who saved their lives is now (likely) dead goes unmentioned.
    • Slightly earlier, Brian and Stewie arrive back in their own universe. They wonder if they're really back this time (due to so many fake-outs beforehand), and they witness Peter farting in Meg's face for no reason. Rather than be horrified, they merely take it as a sign that they are home, after all, not sparing a thought for poor Meg.
  • Awesome Art: The Disney universe, animated in LA at Main Street Pictures as opposed to farmed out to Korea and drawn more fluidly than anything else that's ever been on the show.
  • Common Knowledge: Contrary to popular belief, Disney did not animate the Disney-verse part of the episode. It was handled by Main Street Pictures in LA, though there were ex-Disney artists on board such as Darlie Brewster.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The human Brian getting hit by a car in the end would, sadly, happen to Brian on "Life of Brian." Luckily he got better.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The very existence of the Disney universe, especially with Stewie's line of wanting to spend their lives in that -verse (and, of course, the end of the sequence with Mort getting murdered because he's Jewish). As of March 20, 2019, Disney now owns 20th Century Fox, which means they own Family Guy and all the brutal "Take That!"s the show has made about them since 1999.
  • Signature Scene: The Disney universe sequence is the episode's most famous scene, as it perfectly mimics the art style of Disney's classic cartoons and has some of the most fluid animation in the entire show. It has been endlessly discussed online and is frequently featured in season 8's promos.
