- Alternate Character Interpretation: Does the five-year old girl actually have a daughter or is she talking about a future daughter? For that matter, is she actually five years old or is she really Older Than They Look?
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Sam is liked by the fanbase for being a surprisingly wholesome love interest for Chris.
- Franchise Original Sin: This episode solidified the Deep South as being one of the series' favorite punching bags, portraying it socially and technologically as about a century behind Rhode Island, with later seasons portraying their targeted stereotypes in a vastly more unflattering and regressive light. However, this episode generally remains in good graces as despite the low blows, they're a lot more good-natured (the Griffins gradually find themselves belonging amongst the community, and their neighbors save the day out of nothing but genuine concern for Chris' safety) and they steer clear away from the incendiary approach to politics as later seasons.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Sam saying to Chris that when bad people die, they go to a place where they pray for death but death won't come, which Chris answers "UPN?" In September 2006, UPN became defunct and replaced by The CW.
