YMMV / Falling Fred

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
  • Catharsis Factor: Playing as Ogama Ben Ladder, M. Gandalfi and Martin Castor in Falling Fred and Super Falling Fred. Back when the games came out, the real life people who these characters are based off were really despised by the internet and many found it very satisfying to see them being reduced into blood chunks as they fall to their inevitable deaths.
  • Designated Monkey: Fred is subjected to death and suffering many times over the course of the games, all Played for Laughs. Unlike most other playable characters, (who are either non-canon to the main story or caricatures of controversial figures) the explanation for Fred's misadventures are given by the official social media posts, from which you'll learn that he's an innocent man who just happened to have a Jerkass for a twin. With his soul sold without consent, he is now always on the run from The Grim Reaper himself, and after any death he spends two minutes, (which are about as long as two millennia where he's taken) in Hades before infernal management realises he shouldn't be here and resurrects him, repeating the whole cycle over and over again, without him being able to do anything to fix the situation. Alfreddo, Fred's brother and the reason for his suffering in the first place, gets off scot free in comparison.
  • Rated M for Money: Falling Fred was advertised as "RATED 'S' for SICK people ONLY!" and featuring plenty of "Gore Galore", the latter being something many of its sequels also pride themselves on. Ironically, despite the series' gratuitous use of blood and dismemberment, its age ratings are inconsistent; the App Store releases of Falling and Super Falling (as well as the Amazon Fire release of Running Fred) were rated M, but most other versions and releases don't go past a T rating.note
  • The Woobie: If you think about it, Fred's life really sucks. Having his soul sold by an evil twin, he's now targeted by Grimmy, and not even death can save him, since he'll be brought back to life anyway. He miraculously survives the events of Falling and Super Falling but is billed thousands of dollars for his recovery. It culminates in Clicker Fred, where he is Dragged Off to Hell and tortured to gain money, presumably stuck here for all eternity.
