YMMV / Exam

Go To

  • Completely Different Title: In thai. The movie is called เกมส์ฆาตกรโหด, which mean "Brutal Killer Games".
  • Deus ex Machina: The reveal that Deaf has been playing with the clock can come across like this to some.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: A lot of fans appreciate Black for his tough personality and receiving some decent depth.
  • Magnificent Bastard: The CEO of Bi-Org is a reclusive genius behind the titular Exam, using it to find an assistant to handle the difficult task of distributing the rare medicine he’s developed. The Exam is a test of the candidates’ character, with various red herrings in place to distract them from the real, incredibly simple, answer. As the candidates become more desperate they turn on one another and the CEO refuses to interfere even as they nearly kill one another. The CEO also pretends to be a candidate, nicknamed Deaf, and gives the group subtle clues to the Exam’s answer and alters the room’s timer so the most impatient and sociopathic candidate disqualifies himself. In the end the only member to pass the Exam is a woman who didn’t participate in the infighting, and was observant enough to notice the CEO’s clues, the exact kind of person he wanted for the position.
  • Moment of Awesome: Considering how White got Brunette disqualified, it's very satisfying when Black knocks him out with a well-deserved punch.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Many characters cross this - or consider other characters to have crossed it - at different points.
    • If Brown doesn't cross it by threatening Dark with torture, even tying her up and slicing her thigh open at one point, then he does by stealing White's medicine, which they need in order to live. Though Black was perfectly willing to withhold the medicine, just to see if the victim was faking, Brown knocked the pill down the drain when they began going into genuine convulsions.
    • Black arguably crosses it when he is willing to let White die to to get the job. Note that Dark was already getting White out and he did try to give them the pill before Brown knocked it away. But he still didn't help Dark move White.
    • White takes the guard's gun and threatens to shoot the remaining candidates if they don't leave and forfeit.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Colin Salmon as the Invigilator.
