YMMV / Ewoks

Go To

  • Adaptation Displacement: A lot of children were not familiar with Star Wars when they watched the series, due to their age, and when many saw the Ewoks appear in Return of the Jedi they assumed it was a crossover.
  • Awesome Art: The first season of the series had high-quality animation and up to 24,000 cells per episode.
  • Badass Decay:
    • Happens to Teebo in the second season. From the character who was slightly more sensible and calm than the others and possessing some magical powers by nature; he turns into an incompetent klutz prone to falling, breaking things and his only interest seems to be wooing Latara.
    • Oddly enough, this happens to the Ewoks as a whole in "Battle for the Sunstar." In Return of the Jedi, the Ewoks were able to defeat an entire Imperial army in Rock Beats Laser fashion. In "Battle for the Sunstar," a single Imperial scientist, Dr. Raygar, seems able to easily dominate the Ewoks with his technology.
  • Complete Monster: Morag the Tulgah witch is the Arch-Nemesis of Logray the Ewok shaman and is responsible for several attempts to destroy him and his tribe. After capturing the Queen of the Wisties, Morag transforms her into a fire carrier and has her infect the other Wisties with her curse, using them to start a forest fire that threatens the Ewok village and causes the trees to cry out in pain and fear, the Ewok children hearing these cries. Later, Morag tries to deprive the Ewoks of their medicine by targeting the berries they use for it, and in another attempt, Morag kidnaps a baby Phlog and frames the Ewoks in the hopes that the baby's family will attack the village and wipe the Ewoks out. In her final appearance, Morag kidnaps several Ewok children and uses them to lure Logray to her in order to force him to trade the powerful Sunstar for them. Only releasing the children so that they may watch her kill their shaman, Morag activates a volcanic eruption that not only threatens the lives of the Ewoks, but her own servants as well.
  • Fandom Heresy: A lot of Star Wars fans dislike the show, or anything related to the Ewoks, for that matter. Therefore, they can get VERY angry with people who liked it.
  • Fanon: Though it's never explicitly stated, fans who wish to include this cartoon with the main Star Wars universe usually assume that the Ewoks' magic is an aspect of the Force, even though the Ewoks have never been depicted as Force-sensitive.
  • Fashion-Victim Villain: Dr. Raygar wears an extremely flamboyant and frankly kinda goofy outfit.
  • First Installment Wins: More people are familiar with the first season, as the second was not even aired in many countries.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Go here.
  • Memetic Mutation: Poob/PloobExplanation
  • Retroactive Recognition: Asha would be Tabitha St. Germain's first voice acting role (credited as "Paulina Gillis" at the time), who would go on to become a prolific voice actor best known as Rarity and Princess Luna on My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
  • Seasonal Rot: The second season has the premise and characters completely kiddified without the relatively nuanced sophistication of the first season.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Second season, compared to first is this to many fans of the series. With many elements, most notably the voice acting, art style and the writing, taking a massive downgrade by comparison.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Despite the frequent focus on the dangers of Endor that the Ewoks must face, the tribe is never shown dealing with a Gorax invasion, or even working on their anti-Gorax defenses.
