- More Popular Spin-Off: It is often forgotten by casual comic-book fans that Lady Death first appeared as a secondary character in Evil Ernie before getting her own series, which would end up eclipsing Ernie's series in popularity.
- Nightmare Fuel: All over the place. Every issue has people being killed in gruesome ways, with many of their deaths being rendered in shocking detail.
- Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: The main reason why Evil Ernie's old series has fallen into obscurity is that he is a Villain Protagonist who constantly gets away with doing terrible things and quickly loses his sympathy points over the course of the story.
