• Heartwarming in Hindsight: The author often muses about how much he misses the Pskov District and his dear Caves Lavra after getting sent away to Moscow. It's less bittersweet now, with the knowledge that he did go back again, if only for a while: seven years after the book's publication, Tikhon (Shevkunov) was made Metropolitan of Pskov and Porkhov and Abbot of the Pskov Caves Monastery, and spent five years in that position, getting the chance to personally celebrate the monastery's 550th jubilee and open several new memorials to the elders featured in the book.
