YMMV / Eurovision Song Contest 2022

  • Broken Base: It's safe to say that this edition was much more divisive than the previous one.
    • Special mention goes to the winning entry. Was "Stefania" a strong enough entry to win on its own merits, or was Kalush Orchestra's victory only due to sympathy towards Ukraine (currently suffering from a Russian invasion)?
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In the BBC commentary, Graham Norton noted that Marius Bear's jacket was similar to James Newman's the year before. While causation doesn't mean correlation, Bear did wind up suffering the same nul-televote fate Newman did. However, unlike Newman (who picked up no points with either the jury or public), Bear did have 78 jury points to console himself with.
  • Memetic Loser:
    • Intelligent Music Project from Bulgaria were the first participants to upload their song "Intention", and already when it came out, it was seen as a dull and mediocre rock song, so when other songs began to surface, Intention was frequently found at the bottom of top lists on YouTube, leading to the song becoming a joke among the fandom.
    • While Poland's Ochman and his song "River" was widely praised, finishing in 12th place, the performance was heavily criticized due to how messy it was. Not only were there dancers whose dancing was way too odd for the kind of song performed, but if you watched it as it was recorded, then you will see tons of effects that look cheaply made and slapped on, which was especially mocked as it deprived from an otherwise good song. The mockery expanded as fans started editing other artists' performances to have the same editing shown in "River".
  • Memetic Mutation: See the Contest's dedicated page.
  • Sleeper Hit: While Rosa Linn's "Snap" only finished 20th at the Grand Final (Armenia's worst Grand Final result to date), it found viral success on the Tik Tok social media in late June and ultimately became the most streamed entry once the streams of the main protagonists started to run their course. It became the first Armenian entry in the British, German, Irish and Italian charts, being in the top 40 in many places including down under in Australia and New Zealand.
