YMMV / Esperanza Mía

Go To

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In 2016, one year after the telenovela, there was a huge political scandal over José López, a former politician of the Kirchner government who was captured while trying to sneak bags with millions of euros into a convent with two monks living inside. Unable to explain the origin of that money, he was detained and accused of illicit enrichment. But, as the investigations continued, it was revealed that the convent was not an actual convent, and the monks and nuns were not real monks and nuns. Local TV news programs certainly noticed the similarities, as they usually mixed the footage related to the scandal with the soundtrack (and some footage) of Esperanza mía, the telenovela about a nun that's not a real nun.
  • Misaimed Merchandising: Esperanza gave up the nun cover-up after a pair of months, and resumed her common life. It wouldn't be until many months later that she tried to become an actual nun. But, in the meantime (which included the successful theater plays), all the merchandise still featured Lali Espósito dressed as a nun.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Sor Genoveva, when she swore Blatant Lies "on the sacred heart of Jesus". For a nun, that goes too far. All the other nun (even her supporters) think that.
  • Older Than They Think: A girl witness a crime, escapes from the thieves that want to kill her to keep the secrecy of their crime, and hides in a convent, posing as a nun. Against all precautions, she engages into high profile activities, and help the chorus to become a musical success. Yeah, it's clear that Argentina was trying to do their own Sister Act.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: When Esperanza discovered that Máximo and Tomás were the owners of the factory where her mother died because of the pollution, she gave a monumental What the Hell, Hero? to Tomás, calling him a murderer, an impostor, a liar and lots of other horrible things. Concepción, on the other hand, still thought that Tomás was a good man. Máximo ordered one of his henchmen to take the blame, and so Esperanza completely changed her attitude towards Tomás, asking for his forgiveness. On that occasion, Tomás ignored the chance to repeat the words of Jesus to the Apostle Thomas. As the Good Book Says..., "Because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed [are] they that have not seen, and [yet] have believed".
