YMMV / Erra

Go To

  • Broken Base: Garrison vs. JT. Who’s the better vocalist? Garrison fans think he has more range and his death metal fused harshes led Erra’s music to be far heavier. JT fans cite that he has more of a stage presence and is far more consistent live than Garrison, not to mention Garrison’s style would not fit the Sumerian-era of Erra. Ian gets left out of the discussion due to his short run with the band.
    • The version of "Vanish Canvas" with a feature from Courtney LaPlante (Spiritbox, ex-iwrestledabearonce). It's either a fresh take of the original song from the Self-Titled Album, or a blatant attempt to boost streaming numbers after the self-titled album released that sorely under utilized LaPlante's talents.
  • Contested Sequel: Neon. Many think the album is Erra’s strongest, with more focused songwriting and stronger performances than their previous efforts. Others think the album is nothing but Drift b-sides that they threw together haphazardly. Another point of contention is the production, with many thinking the album is flat and lacks any impact (especially the drums) while others think the album sounds fine. The release of the Self-Titled Album hasn't helped Neon's reception, with many placing Neon as Erra's weakest due to Neon's lack of a clear identity and weak production whereas the S/T is a far more focused album and has some of the best production in metalcore.
  • Epic Riff: Ohh yeah, Jesse definitely knows his way around a guitar. “Orchid” and “Hybrid Earth” are good places to start, not to mention the ending riff from the title track of “Drift.”
  • Even Better Sequel: Impulse was a good debut album, but Augment is better. Drift is even better.
  • Growing the Beard: Augment and Drift are where the band really found their footing, and it’s no coincidence their popularity increased with the release of both albums.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In late 2021, the pondering my orb meme took off. As Jesse noted on Instagram, Erra beat the meme to the punch with the cover to Impulse, which has a woman pondering her orb back in 2011.
  • Memetic Mutation: This picture of Jesse. They even made shirts out of it!
  • Signature Song: “Hybrid Earth,” one of the few songs they play every show.
  • Win Back the Crowd: The “Eye of God” single did this for those who weren’t too hot on Neon.
