- Alternative Character Interpretation: One theory is that Russell isn't actually responsible for the deaths of most of the people who appear in his dreams. While still pretty explicitly the one who killed his parents, his involvement with the others' deaths, if they're even dead at all, is mostly based on the testimony of his own diary. Considering Russell's severe misunderstanding of even the basics of Christianity, who's to say he understands those other situations all that clearly?
- Anti-Climax Boss: The Aged One, the fourth one fought bout halfway through, is built up as a tough opponent. However, he can be killed pretty easily by spamming ice moves. Which is likely part of the point, since he is aged, as his name suggests.
- Tear Jerker: The story of Russell's life, including the murders.
- Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: The entire game is purposefully cruel, hopeless and extremely negative towards its protagonist. Russell is constantly beaten over the head with the fact that he's a murderer to the point of it being gratuitous, and any kindness he gets shown rarely lasts very long.
