YMMV / Emo the Musical

• Awesome Music: Lots of examples:
  • 'Stupid Band' and 'We're All Gonna Die' are both incredibly catchy.
  • 'Electrified' manages to be both adorably romantic and deeply sad at the same time.
  • 'Would Jesus' is possibly the funniest song in the movie while also being a genuinely beautiful performance by Jordan Hare.
  • 'Emo Finale' works in several reprises and blends the different music styles used in the film to great effect.
• Crosses the Line Twice: Inevitable as it's a dark comedy
  • There are a lot of jokes about suicide, which could be offensive if they weren't so over the top that they're hilarious.
  • The lines about Peter's conversion therapy also qualify.
    Peter: I'm not gay, I got the shock therapy!
• Moral Event Horizon: Isaac and Bradley behave pretty awfully throughout the film, but as far as Ethan's concerned they both cross it when Bradley conspires to have Isaac get Peter sent back to conversion therapy, and Isaac does just that despite Peter begging him not to. All to get the Christians down a guitarist. And if the audience was somehow still on Bradley's side after all that, he unquestionably crosses it when he makes a very real threat to kill Isaac - deeply unsympathetic as Isaac may be, that's still obviously very much not okay.
• The Woobie:
  • Poor, poor Peter. At least he got the guy in the end.
  • Ethan as well. The only thing the kid really wants is friends.
