YMMV / Elmo's World

Go To

  • Accidental Nightmare Fuel: When Elmo talks to a Tornado as part of the "Weather" episode. Many viewers who used to watch the show claim to be creeped out by the segment, for just how scary the tornado happens to be.
  • Audience-Alienating Era: Either this segment (or Elmo, who stars in it) is blamed by older Sesame Street fans for killing the show and putting it through one.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Even people who don't like these segments or Elmo in general do tend to like Mr. Noodle.
  • Older Than They Think: The basic premise of Mr. Noodle (a grown adult misunderstanding things to teach simple problem solving) is actually as old as Sesame Street itself. The first season of the show featured segments starring a duo of human characters named "Buddy and Jim" who, like Mr. Noodle, attempted to complete mundane tasks like hanging up a picture frame, often in an interesting manner. They were replaced by another duo named "Larry and Phyllis" and in-turn by another named "Wally and Ralph" before being abandoned altogether by the 5th season.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The 2017 retool of Elmo's World might invoke this in some people who grew up with the previous version, especially since they changed quite a bit of the show. Comments on YouTube uploads of the segment that appeared prior to the COPPA adjustments seemed to imply that this was the case.
  • Unintentional Period Piece:
    • The film segment in the "Transportation" episode about Mark taking a train features a Long Island Rail Road train. Said train was made up of rolling stock that is no longer in service on the LIRR.Specifically...
    • The computer's catchphrase ("Elmo has mail!") is a reference to America Online's "you've got mail" sound, dating the segment to the early Turn of the Millennium.
