- Poirot solves the case and Mrs. Oliver finds solace in the fact that "mercifully human beings can forget". In 2009, a comparative study carried on the books suggest that the drop in quality of Christie's last few works (including this one) could have been caused by Alzheimer's disease.
- Due to it being written almost forty years before its publication, Curtain doesn't feature Mrs. Oliver after a stable presence in Poirot's latter cases. This, along with her implied old age, can be read as her passing away before the events of Curtain.
