  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • The plot sounds like a dark, deconstructed and sexualized take on Beauty and the Beast. Come 2017, Emma Watson, who played the film version of Hermione Granger, plays the live-action take on Belle.
    • The relationship between Hermione and Lucius comes across as an inspiration between Rey and Kylo Ren/Ben Solo in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Hermione/Rey are young women with British accents who opposed Lucius/Kylo for being part of the "dark side" and support an evil regime. Those some young women are kidnapped by those same men, which led to the death of their parents, or parental figures for Rey, but despite the obvious hate, they end up connecting with those same men, turning their mutual hate into love. That same man undergoes Lima Syndrome and ultimately gives his life for the girl he loves. The key difference are of course a much greater age difference and Ben never raped Rey, much less fathered a child with her before his death.
  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • Draco suffers from a distant father and, despite maintaining his attitude towards Hermione from the books and movies, fears his father leaving him due to his hypocrisy towards muggleborns, especially Hermione.
    • Lucius is a racist, a murderer, a supremist and a rapist, yet the more he bonds with Hermione, the more sympathetic he gets. By the end, his buried lust for her becomes love and regrets every horrible thing he did to her. He decides his love for her is more important the than life he's lived, and dies for her.
  • Moment of Awesome:
    • Hermione killing Bellatrix.
'Yes, this is what he left you for.'
    • In the same chapter, Ron snapping Bellatrix's wand in half before spitting at her.
'That's for making us polish your fucking silver!'
    • Ron gets another one when he beats Draco into unconsciousness in one of the final chapters.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Lucius killing Hermione’s parents and raping her later.
    • Avery trying to force Ron to sleep with a dying Ginny to save her life.
  • Realism-Induced Horror: The things Hermione goes through aren't just horrific for what is the norm in the Harry Potter franchise, it's because many of these things are what could happen to her even if she weren't a witch. She's been kidnapped in the night from her home, physically abused, her parents are killed and she never gets to see them again, she deals with the unwanted attraction of a man who is bigoted towards her and is raped by him as she cries for him to stop. That's in addition to her developing Stockholm Syndrome for the same man who committed all those vile deeds and is pregnant with his second son.
  • Spiritual Adaptation: The Harry Potter fanfiction take on Flesh+Blood (1985).
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Hermione's reaction to Lucius' death:
'I can't leave him alone. You don't know how lonely he was. He would never admit it, but he was... He likes being with me.'
    • Also, the death of Hermione's parents.
    • Post-rape Hermione.
    • Ron's discovery of the affair is pretty heartbreaking.
  • The Woobie: Both Hermione and Ron. Hermione is left without her parents, without the man she reformed and fell in love with and must care for his son with another. Ron discovers the girl he loves having a physical relationship with a man old enough to be her father, murdered her parents, and is a racist. He does end up bonding with Hermione's son through Lucius, but goes on unaware she still loves the pureblood supremist.
