YMMV / Eddie the Eagle

• Adorkable: Eddie's naivety, determination, nice attitude and Nerd Glasses definitely make him this trope.
• Cliché Storm: The film contains many of the clichés of other sports movies: A Nice Guy underdog with an unsupportive father, an alcoholic and abrasive trainer with a Hidden Heart of Gold, and a group of snobby nay-sayers always mocking the heroes. Though the execution makes many of them work.
• Heartwarming Moments: Eddie finally meeting Matti Nykänen and the latter showing Eddie respect and treating him as an equal and kindred spirit, making clear he isn't being patronizing and his respect for Eddie is completely genuine, and seeing him as the only other competitor who is like him, someone else who will not be content unless he does his absolute best and doesn't care if he gets a medal for it, only that he can live with himself after knowing he gave everything he could. After a film where almost everyone else looks down and disrespects Eddie, seeing him get such high praise and recognition from someone at the top of the sport is truly wonderful. And while the conversation was made up for the film as Matti had very limited English, the real Matti did greatly respect Eddie and even defended him from rude journalists, telling anyone who was snide about Eddie to go to the top of the slopes and see how brave they felt before they mocked Eddie, showing the spirit of the scene was very true to life.
