  • Accidental Innuendo: The BGA for "Brain Power" attempts to censor the word "COCAINE"...by displaying it as "COXXXXX".
  • Breather Level: In REBOOT : R, the reworked 5K SHD chart for "Lovely Day" is not terribly difficult for a level 15 chart, being less technical or demanding than level 14 or even some level 13 charts and whose hardest part is a somewhat tricky holds + taps section after the first refrain.
  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome:
    • The circular noteskin tends to be a common choice among players due to its visibility, especially on CRT cabinet monitors.
    • According the Januaru 28, 2022 developer livestream for REBOOT : R, most players primarily use 5K modenote
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The lawsuits againse Amuse World by Konami over this series (due to the similarities to beatmania) are hilarious to think about given that in 2022, REBOOT : R received songs by NAOKI and TAG, both of whom previously served as sound director for DanceDanceRevolution, another BEMANI game by Konami, and who also provided songs for beatmania.
  • It's Hard, So It Sucks!: Many newer-generation rhythm game players who buy REBOOT : R are surprised at just how strict the timing windows are in Standard mode; at only ±22 milliseconds for a KOOL, this puts it in the league of beatmania IIDX and pop'n music, two other rhythm games known for strict timings, when most consumer-software rhythm games have timing windows for the best possible judgement at around 35-50 milliseconds. Perhaps to alleviate this, there is a Basic mode where the KOOL window is expanded to 37 milliseconds.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The BGA to "Common Story". The track itself is a pretty typical "electronic pop" song, but as for the video, it starts off with some people having an underwater dance party...and then the movie cuts to a burning passenger jet crashing into the water. The movie ends with these people dead and floating to the surface. The exact events are ambiguous, with two possible interpretations: either they're the passengers of the plane (the cuts around their hands and forearms suggest this) and having one last party before passing away (which is also bittersweet), or they were already there and the airplane crashed the party.
  • Older Than They Think: It's easy to mistake "Finite" as a Tone Sphere crossover due to the song being produced by Sta and having the same art style in the music video. However it actually predates Tone Sphere, having first appeared in Bonus Edition Rev. A and the separate game 3S: Sabin Sound Star.
  • Scrappy Mechanic:
    • In REBOOT : R, the O2Jam Collaboration 7-key course uses predefined keys and there is no way to modify them.
    • The arcade games' timing windows are based on beats rather than time, meaning that the faster the song, the harder it is to get decent accuracy.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: EZ2ON REBOOT : R is seen by many as a massive glow-up from its predecessors EZ2ON REBOOT and RETRO EZ2ON, including being just a full-priced game with DLC (akin to the aforementioned DJMAX Respect V) rather than being reliant on microtransactions to play songs, adding a lot of modern rhythm game conveniences like early/late indicators, timing offsets, UI customization (not just skins but even the positions of the judge display, combo counter, etc), the Live Ctrl feature to test all of these, and a strong base game of over 250 songs without any unlock system, including EZ2DJ classics, new songs introduced in REBOOT : R, and a selection of BMS songs to round it all out.
  • Spiritual Successor:
    • "Sudden Death" from REBOOT and REBOOT : R is basically Korean "GAMBOL".Explanation
    • With the release of the O2Jam collaboration DLC, EZ2ON REBOOT : R is more or less a modern version of O2Jam PC, with similar gameplay of hitting keys on the home row. but many touch-ups to bring it to the modern age such as millisecond-based timing windows and normalized speed settings. In fact, many fans of the original O2Jam consider REBOOT : R to be a better successor than the mobile O2Jam games, which have largely different game design and mechanics to the point that they're seen as In Name Only.
  • That One Attack: Anyone who's played "Identity pt II" on Hard in its home game gets to relive the horror of the "헉" pattern (wherein a rapid series of notes spells out the character and is humanly impossible to combo) in REBOOT : R as part of the O2Jam collaboration, as that pattern returns with a vengeance in the "Brain Stretch" 7-key course!
  • That One Level:
    • Before the January 27, 2022 update of REBOOT : R, G.O.A." 6K-Normal was unreasonably hard for a level 10 chart, featuring complex stream+rhythm patterns that wouldn't look out of place in a level 14 or 15 chart. The update would then overhaul all of its charts.
    • "Sudden Death". None of its charts are particularly technical (most of the notes fall on a quarter beat), but their gimmick is that their timing windows are unusually strict and the Life Meter also made stricter. The charts are the same for every difficulty level but higher difficulty levels feature even stricter timing windows and even harsher lifebar penalties, culminating with a two-millisecond for a Kool on SHD difficulty and a lifebar so harsh that it kills you with just two non-Kool hits (in particular, a non-Kool will take away 99% of the meter). Expect the vast majority of attempts of "Sudden Death" SHD (on any key mode) to end after two notes. To this date, there are no known clears of the track's Hard or SHD charts in REBOOT : R as evidenced by their leaderboards having zero entries each (scores must be part of a clear otherwise they will not be recorded). In fact, FOX-B revealed in a developer stream that the Hard and SHD patterns were made to catch players who hack their way to the tops of the leaderboards; since these patterns are more or less humanly unwinnable, anyone with a recorded clear is likely a cheater.
    • "picking" 5K-Normal in RR is a so-called level 11 chart with lots of fast rhythms and rolls that, on the default key layout, are extremely awkward because they require rolling the middle and ring fingers. And this is after the January 2022 patch that redid all the 5-key charts!
  • That One Sidequest: REBOOT : R' only unlockable content consists of background animations for songs; to unlock a song's BGA for watching in Lounge mode, you just need to clear any of the song's charts once. Since "Sudden Death" is extremely difficult to finish even just on Easy difficulty, thanks to its unique gimmick, good luck trying to unlock its BGA!
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: CODENAME:VIOLET attracted a lot of criticism from players due to removing nearly 60 songs. The rationale behind removing them was due to the high number of songs of the previous few revisions causing the game's loading times to increase. Many of the removals would be later put back in Bonus Edition revision A.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: REBOOT : R is one of the very, very few rhythm games to have full-motion background videos running at 60 FPS, giving the impression that the animations are being rendered in real-time; this is best exemplified with "Brain Power".
