YMMV / Dyztopia: Post-Human RPG

  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • After the player beats Barbados's data in the Battle Lab, Detritus turns out to despise Barbados for mindlessly obeying Zetacorp regardless of the consequences. It's implied that he sees himself in Barbados as a disposable pawn to Zetacorp and doesn't like being reminded of his past loyalty to Zazz.
    • Due to Akari referring to humans as parasites as well as her nihilistic desires, it's implied that she expects and hopes for them to ruin the Earth's environment in the pursuit of wealth and resources, making her an Omnicidal Maniac. This is supported by Asterisk's disdain for humanity because of the harm they caused to the planet.
    • After Akira's party still maintains mixed publicity after Zazz and Morgalia's false flag bombing of Vulcanite, Zazz stops making any real effort to keep Akira from reaching Zetacorp. While this is part of his Xanatos Gambit to get the Zodiac Stones to the sleeping humans, the fact that he doesn't put up more of a fight implies that he may be hoping to die in battle against Akira, due to his grievances over his immortal life.
    • Virgo can either become Akira's ally or oppose them, which seems like a branching path with little justification. However, if Virgo is recruited, her bonding event reveals that she was bitter about Akira handing her over to Zetacorp, which likely ruined her trust in Akira even though the latter is now actively opposing Zetacorp. It's implied that Virgo's mentality between the two possible routes is actually mostly the same and that she was on the fence about whether or not to give Akira another chance.
  • Demonic Spiders: Retrograde Scorpio, like the original boss, can seal one character in sand at a time. However, in the extra Church dungeon, it's possible for two to spawn in the same fight, resulting in two characters being sealed. This is especially brutal on hard mode, where there are only three active party slots.
  • Difficulty Spike: The game gets notably more difficult upon reaching Pon Pon Village, due to the influx of new party members to balance it out.
  • Fridge Horror:
    • There's a species of lizard people, the Kolfos, in Vulward, but they were never mentioned in Zeta's archives. It's implied that Zetacorp did something so bad to the Kolfos that they had to suppress information to this degree. The February 2024 update confirms that Detritus Seven was the one responsible for committing genocide on large chunks of their population when they rebelled against Zeta's occupation of Vulcanite. Worse yet, Lunez receives less forgiveness from the citizens in the ending compared to other characters that used to work for Zetacorp, and it's implied to be because his complicity is more associated with Seven's crimes, which are brutal even by the standards of Zetacorp.
    • When Akari took over the Church of the Vessel, she predicted a date for the end of the world, yet still retained several followers. Considering her desire to "end" the world by turning it into a dystopia, it's implied that her followers are an outright Apocalypse Cult that also want the same thing. Worse yet, the player can get extra cutscenes about Robun's backstory, which reveal that he buys into Akari's rhetoric because he also suffered from the Smog Empire's disrimination. This implies many of the followers are people who are victims of the current non-human civilizations who crossed the Despair Event Horizon.
  • Goddamned Boss: The way the battle system works, the player will run out of MP quickly unless they hit weaknesses and deal critical hits, which generates Hype and increases MP gain for the next turn. However, some bosses, such as Aphos and Zazz, have no weaknesses, making it take longer to regenerate MP. Zazz in particular has a defensive mechanic on his first form that makes him invincible for the rest of a round after he takes enough hits, making the already long battle even slower.
  • Love to Hate: Of the antagonists, Sho Sharker is rather humorous when he sucks up to his Zetacorp allies and when he snarks at the party, but at the same time, he can be a chilling antagonist when he gets an advantage and kidnaps Akira for the sake of his sick hunting game. As much as one may have laughed at his antics, he's still the propaganda arm of a fascist state and it's very satisfying to defeat him on his own show.
  • Luck-Based Mission: The extra Church areas have very random enemy formations with no consistent weaknesses, making it possible to accidentally choose a team that's ill-suited for the powerful enemies. The luck aspect is exacerbated by the fact that there is no option to flee to redo the team composition.
