YMMV / Dragon Ball AF (Toyble)

Go To

  • Character Rerailment: Prior to Broly's canon integration, at least. After being brought back to life, Broly regains his sanity from his debut movie instead of continuing as psychopath obsessed with Goku in Broly: Second coming. From the looks of it, Toyble wanted to give him some needed Character Development.
  • Crack Ship: Due to a mistake in communication, everyone thought Goku and the Supreme Kai of the West were an actual couple in the comic. Not the case, but a lot of people like to joke about it being the case.
  • Cult Classic: The story is well regarded by some members of the Dragon Ball community, and many wish it was actually finished. Any detractors the story may had is due to how bland Xicor is.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Some of this dojinshi ideas became used in the franchise later.
    • An evil woman creates her own version of the main protagonist, and that version is a Blood Knight fighter? Are we talking about Mira and Towa from Dragon Ball Xenoverse, or the Supreme Kai of the West and Xicor? We're talking Towa from Dragon Ball Online although the game's release would be delayed until 2010, so Toyble's version still got out first.
    • An evil Kai and a clone of Goku with his unique form? Goku Black and Zamasu.
    • The fact Kibitoshin manages to seal off Xicor in the Z-Sword would be similar to Goku and Trunks using the Mafuba to seal off Future Zamasu. Except it fails in Super due to the characters forgetting the seal, while the Z-Sword was going to last for about a month.
    • Despite Xicor being sealed in the sword, in the manga version of Super the Z-sword gets destroyed and ends up killing Old Kai, so the only thing they needed to kill Xicor was just to destroy the sword.
    • The fact a god was responsible for the series as a whole can be quite funny, except Lila was the mother of Frieza, thus starting the series, while Beerus merely suggested Frieza to destroy Planet Vegeta and another minor set of events.
    • The fact the main characters need to do a ritual to bring Goku back, and they need the help of 7 super saiyans? The ritual for the Super Saiyan God is quite similar to the concept.
    • And lastly, Majin Poo is a gag character who is literally a bear version of Majin Buu. Readers see him and all they could think of is of Botamo from Universe 6. Ironically, Toyotaro didn't design him, but Akira Toriyama did (based on Winnie the Pooh).
    • In an unused draft for Volume 5, Vegeta fights against Xicor by switching rapidly between various different Super Saiyan forms. Toyotaro would later re-use this same concept for the fight between Goku Black and Vegeta in the manga, even referencing the panels he used for this Xicor vs Vegeta fight.
  • Moment of Awesome: Kibito Kai risking his life in order to stop the Supreme Kai of the West and seal Xicor in the Z-sword. And he does, thanks to Dende appearing out of nowhere.
  • Tear Jerker: Master Roshi's death at the end of the comic is pretty touching.
