  • Periphery Demographic: While it attracted very little attention at the box-office, the film has gone on to have a surprisingly large following among the transgender community. Its treatment of the subject matter might not be hugely sensitive, but it's given credit for the gender transformation actually being quite detailed, instead of being achieved either by a cross-dissolve or the camera just cutting away during the process.
  • Special Effect Failure: Like a lot of other films from the mid-1990s, the CGI used in the transformation scenes falls into the category of being impressively ambitious for the time, but laughably outdated in retrospect.
    • When Richard tears open his shirt mid-transformation, the pneumatic push-up bra used to achieve the "breast growth" is briefly visible before the camera cuts away.
    • Immediately after that, we cut to a frontal shot that pans up Richard's chest, showing off "his" breasts; the seam on the prosthetic chestplate is clearly visible. (The makeup artist tried to disguise the line with fake chest hair, even though Richard had clearly lost his body hair by that point.)
