- Designated Hero: Alex is an abrasive criminal and drunk who lacks the friendliness of his twin brother although considering his backstory he's a Jerk Ass Woobie and ultimately fights on the side of justice in the end.
- Evil Is Cool: Peter and Moon (the latter helps that he is played by Van Damme's friend Bolo Yeung, who is a real life bodybuilder, which shows in the climax when Moon goes Walking Shirtless Scene and carry barrels over his head, and martial artist who can take on Van Damme head-to-toe). His facial scars helps gives off a menacing appearance too.
- He Really Can Act: Jean-Claude Van Damme showcased some surprising acting range by playing as both Chad and Alex.
- Signature Scene:
- Alex fighting Nigel's head bodyguard (who uses the spurs on his boots as weapons) is often considered the film's best fight scene, given their Lightning Bruiser moves and the effective way the thug launches attacks from out of the shadows, then ducks back into the void.
- The scene where Kara demonstrates her Psycho Lesbian nature to Danielle generally sticks with viewers, regardless of whether they see it as Fanservice or Fan Disservice.
- Spiritual Licensee: This film is a more faithful adaptation of the Double Dragon games than the actual film of the game, at least.
