YMMV / Double Dragon Neon

Go To

  • Anti-Climax Boss: Giga Skullmageddon in Neon suffers a good deal from this on higher difficulty levels: on Normal, he's a respectable challenge and about the right difficulty compared to the previous boss, but on higher difficulty levels he becomes vastly easier to kill since he mainly relies on having a high HP count but low defense: this means that since you basically need maxed out mix tapes to actually make it to him on Double Dragon difficulty, he'll take a lot more damage from your attacks than even basic enemies on earlier levels do and will go down that much more faster as a result.
  • Broken Base: Fans either love or loathe Neon's cheesy 80s vibe.
  • Demonic Spiders:
    • Shun, mostly because her spawning animation will damage you if you're too close when it finishes and the fact that she's extremely agile.
    • Roxy, since she rarely comes near the ground and she will perform her ground dash at the most inopportune times (such as rolling out of the way of Abobo's grab).
  • Evil Is Cool: Skullmageddon having a voice like Skeletor and most of the game's funniest dialogue for himself, being a petty dork who just wanted a date, and singing the end credits Villain Song quickly made him a fan favorite. When he made a surprise appearance as an Unexpected Character in River City Girls as a pawn shop owner of all things, the fans who recognized him rejoiced.
  • He Panned It, Now He Sucks!: IGN's review of Neon, which game the game a 3 out of 10, has received harsh backlash from fans of the game.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • That One Level: Assault Zone. There are so many hazards tormenting you throughout the level that it's not even funny. Shun is out in force throughout the stage and can easily get the drop on you while you're distracted by the sheer number of things coming at you at once. Healing and extra lives are scarce, while enemies carrying weapons are plentiful. After fighting two Abobos at once, the arrow barrages really start getting absurf, as you're thrusted into a final segment where only two small areas with no vertical room are safe, all the while having to deal with up to four enemies at a time. And unlike the previous stages, you get no healing before the boss. If you haven't gotten dodging down pat, this level will torture you until you do.
