YMMV / Double Dragon I

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The music for the first level is legendary, and is sometimes considered the theme song of the franchise.
  • Game-Breaker: The Elbow Attack in the original arcade game and NES, thanks to the easily duped AI. Normally the enemies in the game will be hesitant to approach you unless you turn your back on one of them, allowing you to catch them off-guard with the Elbow Attack, which has a decent range and always knocks the bad guys to the ground, regardless of who it is.
  • Demonic Spiders: ABOBO. He has a longer reach than you due to being twice your size, and his slap does quite a lot of damage. He serves as the first boss of the game on both versions but appears as a normal enemy in stages 3 and 4.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Enemies can duck to avoid attacks, but you can't.
  • That One Boss: Willy, in both adaptations.
    • In the arcade version, his machine gun kills you in one hit, making him dangerous to even approach. This, when combined with all of his other minions, makes him a nightmare to defeat. Hope you've got plenty of quarters.
      • In the NES version, he is considerably nerfed, but still not a pushover. His gun does huge damage rather than being an instant kill, but he still does it without warning, meaning he is still difficult to approach. He is also no longer a Flunky Boss.
    • Abobo, who also arguably doubles as a Wake-Up Call Boss.
  • That One Level: Mission 3's caverns in the NES version. Chiefly because of the huge stalactites that randomly (and rapidly) fall from above, doing enormous amounts of damage should they land on you.
