- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- Bryce Papenbrook is now more famous for voicing Kirito in Sword Art Online, a series that's often been compared to .hack// and oddly enough they both aired on the same network in America (also doubles as Retroactive Recognition)
- By the same token, one of the characters is named Reki.note
- Never Live It Down: The Incest Subtext between the twin siblings Shugo and Rena is perhaps the most infamously remembered aspect from the series. Again, the fact that this somehow aired on Cartoon Network uncut is quite mind-boggling.
- Nightmare Fuel:
- Episode 5, "Mansion of Terror" introduces a new location, a dungeon called Cursed Woodland Murderhouse. Which just so happens to be modeled after a haunted mansion. Naturally, the location is filled with monsters. And whenever Shugo and his party defeat them, more spring up. Rena soon wonders off on her own and even manages to discover a room modeled after a torture chamber, of all things.
- No Yay: There are plenty of occasions in the series when Shugo and Rena act more like a romantic couple rather than brother and sister.
- Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: In Sign, plenty of viewers didn't care for Silver Knight's Lawful Stupid Knight Templar attitude, but his appearance in this show was widely liked.
- Retroactive Recognition: Shugo was one of Bryce Papenbrook's earliest roles. He's now best known for voicing Kirito in Sword Art Online, a series that's often been compared to .hack//, and oddly enough, they both aired on the same network in America.
