Sketches

  • Awesome Music
    • Misanthropy is a calm, and somewhat somber music set to the imagery of someone making everyone's day absolutely horrible.
    • Living Forever is also composed by JP de Ovando, and it certainly shows. It's also just a bit somber, but leans more toward being hopeful and encouraging. Watching the 2017 reel is a sure way to feel the tugging at your heartstrings.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: In the middle of Ian and Kyle's argument over the time machine, Rachel suddenly appears singing Compagnons de la Marjolaine. Ian quickly hits the controls and sends her away.
    • This is finally explained to the audience and present day characters in Self-Fulfilling Idiocy 3, although to the Self-Fulfilling Idiocy 2 Kyle and Ian, it still definitely counts.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The Extortionist Hobo.
  • Epileptic Trees: There's a portion of the fandom that loves trying to piece together the quite messed up timeline.
  • Fan Nickname: Ikea AI for Dell Laptop, mainly because the character wasn't formally named until their 3rd or 4th appearence (depending on how one counts their Cameo in Chuck: Intersnect).
  • Friendly Fandoms: With fans of Civilization; the Civ videos are easily some of Door Monster's most popular and acclaimed work.
  • Heartwarming Moments: It's astounding what the right musical score can do for any premise, even one as silly as I Am Bread.
  • Memetic Mutation: Denouncing Venice and, to a lesser extent, Boat Mormonism, especially within the Civ sub-fandom.
    • Demanding that the question "What?" be asked purpler is also a popular in-joke.
    • Dave, the Average Human, a D&D character with 10 (dead average) in every ability score.
    • This quote from Self-Fulfilling idiocy 3 has gained a lot of popularity on Tumblr as the subject of various Incorrect Quotes blogs:
I learned some very valuable lessons from this.
I'm guessing they're all horrible distortions on the lessons you actually should have taken away?
Death isn't real, and I'm basically god!

The Guards Themselves

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Are the other Oligarchs Designated Villains or just as bad as Meyer? Most of them are clearly bothered by Meyer's power-grabbing and don't really do anything evil on screen. On the other hand, they don't exactly do anything to stop him before it's clear he's a threat to them personally.
    • How moral are the Anarchists? While Meyer is clearly a threat, is he one worth letting lose people like Richie or Messier loose on the city to combat?
    • Messier has no problem using his vast arsenal on either civilians or Meyer agents, but follows Noam easily enough. Is he just shocked that someone isn't afraid of him? Glad someone finally treats him like a friend? Using the Anarchists for his own agenda?
  • Awesome Music: Shadow of Whales' Pretenders is just awesome.
