• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • The very same episode that tells us homophobia is wrong has a plot which ends with Doogie being informed by his girlfriend that "[his] charm lies in not being one of the guys".
  • Also Doogie attempting to drink scotch and smoke a cigar, but getting ill. Years and years later on How I Met Your Mother, he's playing Barney Stinson, who smokes cigars and is a functional alcoholic.
  • In the episode "That's What Friends Are For", Vinnie reminisces about the Halloween both he and Doogie went as Spider-Man. Neil Patrick Harris would later voice the famous webcrawler.
• Memetic Mutation: To this day, any person who is established and successful in a career at a much younger age than is typical is referred to as a "Doogie Howser-type".
• Retroactive Recognition:
  • That reporter from "Love Means Constantly Having to Say You're Sorry"? That's Otacon.
  • Max Casella, who plays Doogie's best friend Vinnie, would go onto achieve fame for his roles as Benny Fazio in The Sopranos and Daxter in the Jak and Daxter series and beyond.
