- Narm: The film ends with a triumphant musical piece, then the music abruptly ends, and Boogie Wonderland plays over the end credits for no reason. Granted, the Pun makes it kind of Narm Charm funny when it dawns on you, but it still comes out of nowhere.
- Nightmare Fuel: The Boogeyman himself is an example of walking Nightmare Fuel. The transformation into Zoe mitigates it significantly.
- Larry's gradual transformation into a Boogeyman was just as terrifying.
- Poor Man's Substitute: The movie's music composer Daniel Licht of Silent Hill: Downpour, Thinner and Dexter can be considered its Christopher Young, whom was Licht's mentor, for kids. Licht can be also considered DCOM's own Danny Elfman or Shirley Walker for this movie.
- Ship Tease: Frances and Larry. Constitutes as a Toy Ship.
- Signature Scene: This DCOM's claim to fame is being remembered as "The scariest DCOM ever made!". About 90% of people remembering that is them remembering the scene where Larry is turning into a boogeyman, ferally searching for boogey-goo. After rewatching it, people usually agree that it's actually a rather sweet movie. Though not without eerie scenes.
- Retroactive Recognition: The Boogeyman/Zoe would later appear in hit action-genre video games as Henry Flynn in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Rachel Kane in Call of Duty: Black Ops III.
- Spiritual Successor: In a nutshell, to Disney's dark horror-themed films in the early 80s The Watcher in the Woods, Something Wicked This Way Comes and The Devil and Max Devlin, except as a Disney Channel TV film unlike the three being released in theaters.
- Values Dissonance: Larry's reaction of chagrin and disbelief towards the fact that Frances's father does the vacuuming is pretty jarring. Some things are better left in the 90s.
- The Woobie: Frances and her brother obviously, but Larry especially onwards.
- Zoe, considering it's obvious she did not want to become a Boogeyman.
