YMMV / Donna Summer

  • Awesome Music:
    • The Bad Girls album, especially the title track and "Hot Stuff". "She Works Hard for the Money" and "On the Radio" qualify as well.
    • And of course, the immortal "I Feel Love" from I Remember Yesterday. There are no other tracks that made Brian Eno say that it's the future. The song was a major inspiration for Synth-Pop and Electronic Dance Music, and it continues to influence electronic musicians to this day.
  • Breakaway Pop Hit: "Last Dance" from Thank God It's Friday, in which she both acted and sang.
  • Covered Up: Her rendition of "State of Independence" is far better known than the original by Jon Anderson and Vangelis, as well as her version of "MacArthur Park".
  • Genre Turning Point: "I Feel Love" might not sound like much on first hearing; it's just a constant staccato synthesized beat with Summer singing Looped Lyrics. Then you learn that whole genres like Eurobeat and Electronic Dance Music owe their entire existence to that one song.
  • Growing the Beard: "Last Dance", her first hit single where she sang in her full voice instead of the cooing, moaning of her previous hits and led to other hits in that vocal style, "On the Radio", "Bad Girls", "Hot Stuff" and "She Works Hard for the Money".
  • LGBT Fanbase: She was the queen of disco, after all, despite the rumors that she was a radical Christian homophobe.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Lookin' for some HOT STUFF baby this evening! I need some HOT STUFF baby tonight!"
  • Signature Song: "I Feel Love", "Last Dance", and "Hot Stuff".
