YMMV / Doctor Who S6 E3 "The Invasion"

Go To

  • Les Yay: Isobel is quite clear that she only wants to photograph Zoe, not Jamie. And then she gets Zoe to wear a miniskirt, and photographs her from floor level. Also, Zoe looks strangely sad when she hears about Isobel's new job as a globe-traveling photojournalist, even though she's planning on leaving in the TARDIS at any moment.
  • Narm: A Cyberman wanders through the sewers, screaming in fear. For those familiar with the Cybermen, it's very disturbing — but at the same time the screams are more like hoots, so you have a Cyberman flapping its arms in the air going "Ooo hoo hoo hoo! Ooo hoo hoo hoo hoo!" as if it were doing a bad Daffy Duck impression.
  • Narm Charm: A classic example of turning a weakness into a strength. The real reason that Vaughn's offices are exact replicas of one another is, of course, that they're all the same office and they're saving money by just shooting on the one set. But it really come across as very in character for a man like Vaughn, with Vaughn's resources, to make all his workplaces just like one another.
  • Ship Mates: Zoe/Isobel for Doctor/Jamie shippers.
  • Signature Scene: The cliffhanger at the end of Episode Six, in particular the shot of the Cybermen walking down the steps of St Paul's cathedral, which is one of the most iconic shots in all of Classic Who.
  • Strawman Has a Point: Isobel suggests getting proof of the Cybermen's presence in the sewers by going down to take pictures. The Brigadier agrees but intends to use his own men instead, on the basis that such a situation is no place for a lady. Isobel blows up at how backward and sexist he's being, but the Brig refuses, and both girls gang up on Jamie for agreeing with him and both she and Zoe walk away in a huff to get the pics themselves with Jamie worriedly tagging along, which ends up getting a police officer and a UNIT soldier sent to rescue them killed. While it could easily be argued that the Brig was in the wrong to assume they could not handle themselves for being women, it might have been better to let trained and experienced soldiers do the dangerous work, and neither of the girls are ever called out for their reckless actions getting two men killed. To add insult to injury, Isobel's photos end up being useless since she's never done any surveillance or low-light photography.
